Boesmansriviermond proposed name change

Some politicians have once again raised the idea of changing the name of Boesmansriviermond. We’ve been through this process before — at least twice — and no change was made last time. Their goal is to reflect local culture in place names, but the Coloured community’s feedback previously carried significant weight. As the people with some of the deepest roots in the area, they viewed the name Boesmans as something that belonged to them, not as a negative term.

We continue to believe that Boesmansriviermond already reflects the most authentic local heritage, yet we also want to hear from all stakeholders as the discussion resurfaces.
